A Newark man has been arrested on a felony charge of Driving While Intoxicated following the investigation into a motor vehicle accident on Gibson Street in Canandaigua.
According to Canandaigua Police, 42-year-old Joseph Lugo was driving his car on Gibson Street when he crashed, requiring him to be extricated by the Canandaigua Fire Department. Once Lugo was out of the car, a further investigation determined that Lugo had been driving in an intoxicated condition prior to the accident. Lugo is then accused of giving police a false name.
Further investigation into Lugo’s driving history revealed a previous conviction of DWI in the previous ten years.
In addition to felony DWI, Lugo was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and false personation. The 42-year-old was issued several citations and an appearance ticket for Canandaigua City Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
