A Newark man was arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office following a traffic stop while deputies were conducting a DWI Checkpoint in the village of Newark.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, George Abrams was pulled aside during the checkpoint after deputies observed the car he was driving had an expired registration. Further investigation revealed that Abrams allegedly had drug paraphernalia within the car and showed visible signs of impairment. Abrams was put through Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which, according to deputies, he failed leading to his arrest.
Abrams was processed at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office where a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation was performed before he was released on traffic tickets.
Abrams is to appear in the village of Newark Court at a later date to answer the charges
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
