A Newark man was awaiting CAP arraignment at the Wayne County Jail following his arrest on stalking charges Thursday.
The arrest of 64-year-old Jerard Hughson stemmed from the investigation into a domestic incident spanning for several weeks. It is alleged Hughson used his 21-year-old son to relay messages to his wife while knowingly in direct violation of a Stay Away Order of Protection issued out of Galen Town Court to protect her from him. It is further alleged that Hughson would find his wife’s vehicle and place handwritten letters for her on the windshield in an attempt to initiate direct contact while she was volunteering for a local fire department. The course of events was reported to have been ongoing since March 4 and ending Thursday when police were called.
Hughson was also charged with harassment and criminal contempt. Following arraignment, he was sent to Wayne County Jail
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
