A Moravia man has been charged with criminal mischief following an incident that occurred late last month in the Cayuga County village.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck reports that 36-year-old John Sullivan was arrested last Friday and charged with Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.
Deputies were originally called to a residence in the Village of Moravia on December 28 for a reported domestic incident. That situation was investigated, and deputies determined that no charges would be filed against the individuals involved. However, during the follow-up investigation, deputies learned that Sullivan had allegedly kicked in the door of a separate apartment before officers arrived, causing damage. As a result, deputies continued their investigation and later took Sullivan into custody.
Sullivan was processed and released with an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in the Village of Moravia Court on January 15.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
