Montezuma Woman Arrested for “Testing” Suicide Hotline

A Montezuma woman will be in court next week after “testing” the Suicide Crisis line.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a Montezuma home for a reportedly suicidal person on Saturday. Deputies were advised that someone was texting the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, claiming they had a gun and intended to shoot themself.

Upon entering her home, deputies say Lynn Gislason told them she was testing the system and determined it was a failure. She was subsequently arrested and charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident.

Gislason is set to appear in Montezuma Town Court next Wednesday.

The office adds that false reports can tie up resources that may be needed for actual emergencies.
