A Cayuga County village clerk and her husband are facing felony charges after deputies say they were found with homemade firearms.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old Patricia Ewald, the clerk for the Village of Port Byron, was arrested on October 24, and her husband, 55-year-old Eric Ewald, was taken into custody three days later.
Investigators say both had unserialized, self-manufactured pistols at their home in the Town of Mentz.
The Ewalds were each charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony, and released on appearance tickets. They’re due back in Mentz Town Court next month.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
