Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says a Mentz man was arrested last month following a domestic violence incident in the town.
Deputies responded to a home on November 22 around 5:43 p.m. and determined that 57-year-old Richard Dixon had damaged a desktop computer and placed his hands around the victim’s neck during an argument. Investigators established probable cause and took him into custody.
Dixon was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. He was processed at the Public Safety Building and taken to the Cayuga County Jail for CAP arraignment, where bail was set at $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. A full stay-away order of protection was also issued.
Dixon later posted bail and appeared in Mentz Town Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
