Man Charged After Baseball Bat Used in Sodus Assault

SHARE NOW

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says a Newark man is facing charges after attacking two people with a baseball bat during a disturbance in the Village of Sodus.

Deputies say 56-year-old Leroy Smith struck one man in the arm, leaving a cut and swelling, and hit another in the side of the head, causing minor injuries.

Smith is charged with assault, attempted assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was taken to the Wayne County Jail to await arraignment.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
