A Rochester man is facing multiple charges after Penn Yan Police found him asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle parked on a curb at a local business.
Officers responded to a complaint and discovered 36-year-old Karl Norman K. Tashjian IV inside the vehicle, which was partially on the curb. According to police, Tashjian showed several signs of intoxication and failed a series of field sobriety tests.
He was taken into custody and brought to the Yates County Jail, where a breath test showed his blood alcohol content was 0.14%—well over the legal limit. Tashjian was then processed at the Penn Yan Police Department and released with appearance tickets.
He is charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Common Law), DWI with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle, and Parking in an Off-Street Handicapped Zone.
Tashjian is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
