Man Arrested Following Car vs Pedestrian Accident in Genoa

SHARE NOW

One man is facing charges following a motor vehicle accident in Cayuga County.

Sheriff’s Deputies report responding to Stevens Street in Genoa just after 11:30p on the 18th. There, they found a pedestrian being treated by EMS at the edge of the roadway.

After interviewing the driver, Michael Ward, it is believed the pedestrian approached him in a parking lot, leading to an argument and fight. When Ward attempted to drive away, the pedestrian climbed onto the vehicle’s sidestep and was then thrown from it.

Deputies add Ward had been drinking prior to getting in the vehicle and fleeing the scene of the accident. He was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident. He was then released on appearance for Genoa Town Court on December 5.

The pedestrian was taken to the University Hospital and later released.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Wojcikowski at 315-253-1222.
