A Cortland County man was arrested on public lewdness charges for an incident that occurred in the city of Ithaca early Friday morning.
Witnesses reported Joshua Compton, of Marathon, sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked car in front of a busy restaurant fully exposed and engaged in lewd conduct in full view of others. When Ithaca Police arrived on the scene in the 100 block of Dryden Road, they confirmed the 36-year-old was viewing pornographic material and engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior.
Compton was also charged with public display of offensive sexual material and exposure of a person. He will appear in Ithaca City Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Due to the proximity of the incident, Cornell University Campus Police were also alerted of the incident.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
