A Town of Lyons man is behind bars following a Grand Jury indictment on multiple felony sex charges.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says Matthew Hagar was arrested after the Wayne County Grand Jury issued an indictment warrant on November 21. Hagar is accused of sexually abusing a child over a period of several years, with the alleged abuse continuing until the victim reached adulthood.
The indictment includes several serious felony charges, including rape in the first degree, predatory sexual assault against a child, incest in the first degree, and course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree.
Investigators say the victim is a female who is related to Hagar and reported being raped and sexually abused repeatedly over the years.
Authorities also note that Hagar was already on probation at the time of the alleged crimes for a previous sex offense involving a victim under the age of 15. He is classified as a Level 3 sex offender, and the new charges also violate the terms of his probation.
Hagar was arraigned in Wayne County Court before Judge Williams and was sent to the Wayne County Jail without bail while the case proceeds.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
