A Lyons man is facing a petit larceny charge following an incident Friday at a village business, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the incident happened Jan. 2 at Paton’s Market Place on West Main Street in the Village of Sodus. Investigators determined that a phone charger was allegedly taken from the store and that the suspect passed all points of sale without paying before leaving in a vehicle.
The vehicle was later located and stopped around 5 p.m. on State Route 14 in the Town of Lyons. 35-year-old Joe Carter was arrested following the traffic stop.
Carter was charged with one count of petit larceny. He was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Sodus Town Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
