Ithaca Police are investigating a Friday night assault.
Police say they responded to the 100 Block of West State Street around 9:30p for the report of a person being either shot or stabbed in the neck. Upon arrival, they found the victim who reported he was standing outside of an establishment when two unidentified black men began attacking him. One pulled out what appeared to be a handgun which he attempted to discharge but was unsuccessful. The victim was then struck in the head and neck with the gun before the pair fled.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for lacerations.
While on the scene, officers found a BB or pellet pistol possibly connected to the assault.
Both suspects were wearing dark-colored clothing, with one wearing a red bandana
