An Ithaca man wanted in connection with an assault that occurred in the city back on May 1st is now in police custody.
Officers learned that 32-year-old Gerald Smith had returned to the Cherry Street location of where the physical domestic occurred and allegedly threatened to shoot the victim or himself with a gun. When officers arrived on the scene late Saturday night, Smith fled into a nearby apartment. Smith was eventually taken into custody a short time later after police gained access to the apartment.
Smith was charged with assault, strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, aggravated family offense, and criminal mischief, all felonies. Police add that Smith was not in possession of a firearm when they arrested him.
Following his arraignment, Smith was sent to Tompkins County Jail.
