An Ithaca man faces multiple charges after two separate incidents in the city on Thursday.
Police report responding to a residence in the 400 Block of North Aurora Street for a dispute between a suspect and the homeowner. The suspect, later identified as Richard Johnston, is alleged to have swung a baseball bat near the homeowner during the dispute, causing the homeowner to fear being injured. Johnston and the victim are known to each other.
A separate incident occurred just before 5:00p where the 66-year-old was accused of striking a car with a walking stick while it was driving through the intersection of Tioga and East Seneca Streets, causing damage to the vehicle. The victim and Johnston didn’t know each other.
Roughly half an hour later, Johnston was found by police riding a bicycle in the Fall Creek neighborhood. He initially attempted to evade arrest but was taken in shortly after without incident.
Johnston was charged with felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Mischief along with misdemeanor counts of Menacing and Obstructing Governmental Administration. He was arraigned and released.
