An Ithaca man is facing felony drugs and weapons charges after an incident on the West End of the Commons over the weekend.
Shortly before 11 Friday night, police spotted a person of interest who they were looking to identify, who was also in possession of an open container of alcohol on the West End of the Commons. When a Uniformed Ithaca Police Officer attempted to speak with the suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Ryan Elliot, he fled on foot. A brief foot chase ensued until Elliot was taken into custody on West Green Street after falling over a chain barrier in a parking lot.
Elliot was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, narcotics and was charged with the two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and a single count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies. He was also charged with obstructing governmental administration.
Elliot did suffer injuries when attempting to flee and was taken to Cayuga Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Following his arraignment, Elliot was sent to Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
