A traffic stop in Tompkins County resulted in the arrest of an Ithaca man on weapons and drug charges.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Dryden Road in the town of Dryden on a black Chevrolet pick-up truck for allegedly having a suspended registration. While speaking with the driver, deputies say they spotted an AR-15-style rifle on the back seat. Following a search, deputies recovered an illegal AR-15 rifle, an illegal short-barrel shotgun, a high-capacity magazine, and drugs.
27-year-old Emmitt Houston was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon as well as a single count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Houston was released on an appearance ticket following his CAP Court arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
