An Ithaca man was taken into custody early Sunday after police say he threatened officers with a knife while they attempted to arrest him on outstanding warrants.

Officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning to the 100 block of East Green Street for a reported noise complaint inside a multi-unit apartment building. 43-year-old Jason Noble was located inside the building, who authorities said was known to have multiple active arrest warrants.

According to police, the warrants included charges of resisting arrest, forgery, criminal impersonation and criminal mischief.

While attempting to take Noble into custody, police said he displayed a knife and threatened officers at the scene. A brief physical altercation followed, during which Noble was observed consuming an unknown white powdery substance before being handcuffed.

Noble was evaluated by medical personnel for the substance ingestion and for minor injuries sustained during the struggle. No officers were injured during the incident.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Noble now faces new charges including menacing, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon.

Noble was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail without bail, according to police.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Ithaca Police Department. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the department’s tip line or online reporting system.
