Investigation Alleges Youth Center Worker Caused Fight Between Teens

An investigation into an altercation involving juveniles at a Cayuga County youth residential center has resulted in the arrest of a staff member.

According to State Police, the incident occurred at the Harriet Tubman Residential Center located just outside of Auburn in Sennett on September 21. A multi-month investigation of the incident alleges that Ali VanGiesen was involved in causing the altercation between the two 15-year-olds.

The 28-year-old Auburn woman was arrested on November 30 and charged with two counts each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Official Misconduct, both misdemeanors. She was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Sennett Court on January 10.

The Harriet Tubman Residential Center houses female teens youth placed with the Office of Children and Family Services by Family Court.
