SHARE NOW

An inmate at the Cayuga County Jail is facing an additional charge for possessing contraband at the jail.

On July 19, after smelling smoke in the J Block of the jail, deputies conducted a search of the block. While in Jason McPhearson Sr’s cell, they found the tip of a latex glove with tobacco inside of it. Tobacco is considered contraband at the jail.

Camera footage also allegedly shows he tampered with an electronic kiosk within the block, causing it to spark and create a flame.

McPhearson was arrested on Friday and charged with Possession of Prison Contraband, a misdemeanor. He will be arraigned in Sennett Town Court on August 7.

McPhearson remains incarcerated on unrelated charges.
