A 26-year-old man already in custody at the Wayne County Jail is facing new charges following an investigation into the misuse of public assistance benefits.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the County Department of Social Services, has charged Joseph Gonzalez with Misuse of Food Stamps and Petit Larceny.
Investigators allege that Gonzalez allowed other individuals to use his SNAP EBT card on two separate occasions, resulting in a total of $62 in unauthorized purchases.
Gonzalez was issued an appearance ticket and returned to jail, where he is being held on unrelated charges. He is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date to answer to the new charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
