SHARE NOW

An inmate at the Steuben County Jail is facing a felony charge after allegedly attacking a correctional officer.

Sheriff Jim Allard reports that 43-year-old Michael Cragg, Jr., in Corning, was arrested on July 20th after deputies responded to a report of an assault inside the jail. Investigators say Cragg allegedly struck a correction officer in the face, causing injury.

Cragg, who was already incarcerated, has been charged with second-degree assault, a Class D felony. He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and remains in the Steuben County Jail.

The injured officer was treated at a local medical facility and later released.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
