Icy Conditions Send Ithaca Driver Off Road in Covert

SHARE NOW

Icy road conditions are being blamed for a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in the Town of Covert.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded around 4:35 a.m. to State Route 96 for a reported personal-injury accident. Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling northbound when it slid off the roadway due to icy and slippery conditions.

The driver and sole occupant, 39-year-old Shawnette Hinds of Ithaca, was treated at the scene by Bangs Ambulance and transported to Cayuga Medical Center with complaints of a headache and side pain.

Hinds’ vehicle sustained heavy damage to the passenger side and was towed from the scene by Route 89 Auto.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Trumansburg Ambulance and the Interlaken, Ovid and Lodi fire departments.
