A traffic stop in the city of Geneva resulted in the arrest of a Geneva man.
David Vazquez-Monfil was initially pulled over for allegedly driving an uninspected motor vehicle. During the roadside investigation, Geneva Police determined Vazquez-Monfil was driving while intoxicated. The 31-year-old has a prior DWI conviction within the past ten years and is required to have an interlock device to drive a car. The car he was driving did not have an interlock device, police said.
While taking Vazquez-Monfil into custody, police say the defendant physically resisted.
Vazquez-Monfil was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both felonies, along with interlock violation, unlicensed operator, uninspected motor vehicle, failure to update address on license and resisting arrest.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
