A woman is in police custody for her alleged role in a series of residential burglaries that happened this summer in Yates County.
On Sunday, Yates County 911 dispatchers received a complaint of a suspicious person approaching a home on Gravel Run Road in Barrington. A short time later, State Police and the Yates County Sheriff’s Office located the car involved and identified the driver as Sheila Swarthout, who previously lived in Rock Stream and now resides in Ashford, West Virginia. The investigation into the summer burglaries resulted in Swarthout being identified as a person of interest.
For her alleged role in the summertime burglaries and Sunday’s incident, the 56-year-old was arrested on four counts of burglary and petit larceny, along with two counts of attempted burglary and a single count of criminal trespass.
Swarthout was held at the Yates County Jail for arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
