Florida Fugitive Captured in Penn Yan; Local Woman Also Charged

SHARE NOW

A dangerous Florida fugitive is behind bars after being captured in Yates County.

Authorities say 21-year-old Jacques Gentis, wanted in Florida on multiple armed burglary charges, was arrested on August 28th in Penn Yan. Gentis had been on the run since January and was considered armed and dangerous, sparking a months-long investigation across several states.

U.S. Marshals, with help from Penn Yan Police, found Gentis at the Prospect Avenue boat launch, where he was taken into custody without incident. He’s now being held at the Yates County Jail, awaiting extradition to Florida on four warrants out of Sarasota County and another from Charlotte County.

A week later, on September 5th, U.S. Marshals also arrested 23-year-old Sydnee Zigas of Penn Yan.  She allegedly let Gentis stay at her East Main Street residence while knowing he was a fugitive. Zigas is being held in the Yates County Jail, pending extradition.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
