Five teenage girls have been charged in connection with an assault that allegedly occurred at an underage drinking party last weekend in Steben County.
An investigation revealed that the altercation at a residence on County Route 50 in Wayland stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the victim and a 17-year-old girl. Video evidence showed the 17-year-old suspect initiating the assault, followed by four other girls, three who are 17 years old and the other who is 15, joining in on the assault along with 18-year-old Nickayla Wise, of Wayland. Statements from the five suspects to State Police confirmed their involvement.
The four underage suspects were all charged with misdemeanor assault as was Wise, who was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Troopers also arrested 19-year-old Dylan McDonald, of Wayland, for hosting the underage drinking parking. He was also charged with unlawfully dealing with a child.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
