Farmington Woman Accused of Welfare Fraud, Grand Larceny

SHARE NOW

A Farmington woman is facing felony charges after investigators say she collected thousands of dollars in public assistance she wasn’t entitled to.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Leah Cross was arrested following a welfare fraud investigation conducted with the county’s Department of Social Services.

Deputies say Cross failed to report her husband’s income while receiving SNAP benefits and again on a HEAP application. As a result, she has been accused of fraudulently collecting nearly $2,900 in benefits.

Cross is charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny, and offering a false instrument for filing. She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
