An erratic driver complaint resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old Penn Yan man.
Joseph Scalpi was reported to be driving erratically in the village of Penn Yan on Elm Street. Officers located the car and observed it being operated erratically on Liberty Street and failing to keep right.
A traffic stop was initiated on Lake Street and officers say they observed several indicators of intoxication from Scalpi being bloodshot and water eyes, slurred speech, impaired motor coordination and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Scalpi was placed through standardized field sobriety tests which he failed.
Scalpi was charged with DWI Common Law and failure to keep right. Additional charges are pending lab analysis
