Elmira Man Accused of Leading Authorities on Chase in Tompkins, Schuyler Counties

An Elmira man is accused of leading police on a pursuit that started in Tompkins County and ended in Schuyler County.

In Schuyler County, Maurice Johnson, of Elmira, was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and a number of vehicle and traffic violations after a pursuit through the town of Cayuta.

Johnson was issued an appearance ticket and uniform traffic tickets to appear in Cayuta Town Court.

Schuyler Sheriff’s K9 Digit, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, Horseheads Village Police, and the Elmira Heights Village Police Department assisted in the arrest.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
