A Dundee man faces a number of charges in Penn Yan including attempted burglary and making a punishable false written statement.

Steven Crawford was also charged with criminal contempt and aggravated family offense after officers were called to the home of a Penn Yan resident who had a Stay Away Order of Protection against Crawford. That individual reported that Crawford had driven by her house several times that night. She also told police that the night before she let her dog out at approximately 2 a.m. and one ran around the side of the home. When she went to retrieve it, she found Crawford in her yard petting it. The woman said she ran inside the house and locked the door. She then claimed the 31-year-old Crawford followed her and attempted to gain entry into the home before leaving. As officers were speaking to the victim, they witnessed Crawford drive by the residence again. A traffic stop was initiated and Crawford was questioned about his actions. Once at the police department, officers said Crawford gave them a false statement claiming he was never at the woman’s home.

Crawford was charged with the above charges and was taken to the Yates County Jail to await central arraignment.
