A Rochester man is facing a number of reckless driving charges after he led police in Yates County on a pursuit through the village of Penn Yan.
At around 2:30 Monday morning, the Sheriff’s Office received word that a car was driving over 100 miles per hour southbound on Pre-Emption Road heading into Yates County. With help from the Penn Yan PD, the car, driven by 50-year-old Leonard Henry, was located. When police attempted to pull Henry over, he refused and led police on a chase. After running through a number of stop signs, spike strips were deployed, and the tires on the car Henry was driving became deflated.
Henry was charged with Unlawfully fleeing police officer 3rd Degree, AUO 2nd, Reckless Driving (4 counts), Speed in zone (2 counts), Failure to keep right, Failure to stop at stop sign (2 counts), and Passed red signal
Following arraignment, Henry was issued appearance tickets before being handed over to the Geneva Police Department to answer pending charges from that agency.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
