The operator of a car driving in the area of North Street and Arterial West in the city of Auburn without its headlights or taillights activated early Thursday morning was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Auburn Police report they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Genesee Street, but the driver, Matthew Carr, allegedly failed to stop and sped away. After a pursuit throughout the city, Carr drove off the road and came to a stop in the area of Eastern Parkway and Ross Street Extension. Carr quickly got out of his car and was taken into custody.
Due to having a previous conviction for Aggravated DWI, Carr, who resides in Rouses Point, was charged with felony DWI and driving on a suspended license. He was released on appearance tickets.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
