A Phelps man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole while driving intoxicated.
According to authorities, 35-year-old Kenneth Niles was arrested around 2:20 p.m. on Friday following an investigation into a single-vehicle crash on North Wayne Street, just north of State Route 96 in the Town of Phelps.
Deputies allege Niles was traveling northbound when he left the roadway onto the eastern shoulder and struck a utility pole, causing damage to both the vehicle and the pole. NYSEG responded to address the damaged utility pole.
Following the investigation, Niles was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree.
He was transported to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment and is scheduled to appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date.
The Phelps Fire Department and Finger Lakes Ambulance also responded to the scene.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
