An 18-year-old from Rochester is facing charges after deputies say he was driving under the influence of cannabis during a DWI checkpoint in Wayne County.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Alexander Anderson, of Ward Street in Rochester, entered a roadside sobriety checkpoint on Friday in Palmyra. Deputies reported a strong smell of burnt cannabis coming from Anderson’s vehicle.
Following field sobriety tests, Anderson was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs (DWI-Drugs). He was later released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Palmyra Town Court at a later date.
The arrest was part of ongoing efforts by the Sheriff’s Office to crack down on impaired driving.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
