A Corning man was charged with DWI following a traffic stop in the village of Penn Yan.
Richard Lewis, Junior, was observed by Penn Yan Police driving with an inoperable tail lamp. During the traffic stop, Lewis allegedly showed signs of impairment. The 57-year-old was placed through a series of standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed. Lewis was placed under arrest and transported to the Yates County Jail where he submitted to a chemical test that showed he had a .18% BAC.
Lewis was charged with Aggravated DWI, DWI of .08% or greater, DWI, and no/inadequate tail lamp. He will appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date to answer the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
