On Thursday, deputies from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 36-year-old Conquest woman following a single-vehicle crash on Swamp Road.

At approximately 6:43 P.M., deputies responded to a reported motor vehicle accident near Peachblow Road in the Town of Conquest. Upon arrival, officers observed a grey Jeep in a ditch with the engine still running at high revolutions. The driver, identified as Misty Leonard, was found slumped over the steering wheel. Deputies also reportedly observed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle’s cup holder.

After being awakened by officers, Leonard exited the vehicle and allegedly informed deputies she was on probation before attempting to flee the scene on foot. Following a brief struggle, she was taken into custody. Authorities stated that Leonard later refused to submit to a chemical test during processing.

Leonard was charged with felony Driving While Intoxicated due to a prior conviction, Resisting Arrest, Moving From Lane Unsafely, and Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle. She was arraigned at the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) Court, where bail was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. Leonard is scheduled to appear in Conquest Town Court on February 24.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
