SHARE NOW

A Martville woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly defrauding the Wayne County Department of Social Services out of nearly $2,500 in daycare assistance benefits.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, 47-year-old Brandy Disbennett, of Queens Farms Road, falsely claimed she was providing daycare for three children and submitted those claims to receive public assistance. Authorities say the fraud occurred between November 13 and December 31, 2024, during which Disbennett received $2,481 in benefits she was not entitled to.

Disbennett has been charged with Welfare Fraud in the 4th Degree, Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st Degree.

She was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
