A Cayuga County woman has been charged with felony arson in connection with a house fire that happened last month.
A multi-agency investigation determined that on April 18th, 48-year-old Marea Slate allegedly started a fire inside her Briarwood Drive home in Brutus. The residence was a total loss, surrounding structures sustained damage, and two cats died.
Slate is scheduled to make a town court appearance next week.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Fire Investigators and K9, the Weedsport, Jordan, Sennett, and Elbridge Fire Departments, Cayuga County Emergency Service Office, Jordan Ambulance, Auburn City Ambulance, Cayuga County 911, and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
