Cayuga County Deputies arrested a Venice man on August 30 following an investigation into larceny and fraud.
41-year-old Benjerman Denman is charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony.
Deputies were initially called to a Venice residence on August 26 after the victim reported Denman had taken their vehicle without permission and attempted to cash unauthorized checks at a bank in Moravia. A subsequent investigation confirmed Denman’s involvement, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Denman was located and taken into custody on August 30. He was arraigned and released pending a future court appearance in Venice Town Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
