A Mentz man was arrested on DWI charges following a single-vehicle crash in the Town of Brutus.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says deputies arrested 56-year-old Gary Large on charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of 0.18 percent or higher, along with multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Deputies and a New York State Trooper were originally dispatched around 9:40 p.m. to a motor vehicle accident on State Route 31 near Pump Road. Investigators say Large was traveling westbound when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole, shearing it in half.
Large was taken to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, where he provided a breath sample showing a blood alcohol content of 0.19 percent.
He was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Town of Brutus Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
