Police attempted to stop a car that was spotted driving at a high rate of speed near the intersection of West State and North Plain streets Wednesday night but were unsuccessful. The car later crashed into a home in the 400 block of Cascadilla Street. The home sustained structural damage and the car caught on fire after the crash.
The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Ismanuel Dilan, of Ithaca, fled the scene but was eventually taken into custody. No one inside of the home was injured.
An investigation determined Dilan was allegedly involved in a domestic incident before being spotted driving at a high rate of speed and crashing the car. The victim of the assault was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after allegedly being assaulted and unlawfully restrained.
Dilan was charged with felony assault, along with misdemeanor charges of unlawfully fleeing a police officer, assault, unlawful imprisonment, reckless driving and several vehicle and traffic violations.
Further charges are pending.
