The driver involved in a one-car accident Saturday night on State Route 89 in the town of Savannah was arrested.
It is alleged by Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies that 67-year-old William Hand, of Savannah, had operated a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition after being observed near the scene of the crash by deputies who detected an odor of alcohol on his breath. Hand was asked to participate in standardized field sobriety testing which he agreed to do and failed.
Hand was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated common law and one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated with .18% BAC or greater.
Hand was taken to the Wayne County Jail for processing before being released on traffic tickets.
