The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the county’s Department of Social Services, has arrested a Canandaigua woman following an investigation into fraudulent SNAP benefits.
Deputies say 35-year-old Megen Aguilar-Lopez, of Lakeshore Drive, was charged with Welfare Fraud in the 5th Degree and Petit Larceny. Investigators allege Aguilar-Lopez failed to report income she was receiving from her employer while collecting benefits.
As a result, she allegedly received $989 in SNAP benefits between June 19 and September 30, 2024, that she was not eligible for.
Aguilar-Lopez was issued an appearance ticket and released. She is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
