A Canandaigua man was being held in the Ontario County Jail after he allegedly threw a knife at Sheriff’s Deputies and then barricaded himself inside a bathroom.
On Tuesday, deputies responded to a County Road 50 location in the town of Canandaigua for a trespassing complaint. Nathaniel Waffner is accused of overstaying his welcome after being housed at the location through a Department of Social Service appointment. While deputies were attempting to get the 41-year-old to leave the premises, he reportedly became belligerent and hostile towards them. He also brandished a knife that he had picked up from a bedside table and threw it at deputies. After barricading himself in the bathroom, Waffner was extracted and taken into custody.
Waffner was charged with trespass, resisting arrest and two counts of menacing a police officer.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
