Canandaigua Police have arrested 29-year-old Benjamin Shur on 11 counts of criminal mischief for incidents that stemmed over two weeks.
It is alleged that between April 20th, 2024 and May 5th, 2024, Shur has caused thousands of dollars in damage to local businesses and has committed numerous crimes. On April 20th, Shur was arrested for kicking a hole in the wall at a local restaurant. On April 21st, Shur was arrested for stealing a bicycle. On April 22nd, Shur was arrested for causing close to $3,000 in damage to an electronic entry keypad of a business on South Main Street.
On April 21st, the Canandaigua Police Department was dispatched to a business on South Main Street for a criminal mischief complaint. Through investigation, it is alleged that Shur damaged numerous storage units, causing over $7,000 in damage. While at the police department being processed, Shur damaged a cabinet door and urinated on the floor of the booking room.
Shur was additionally charged with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, and Criminal Tampering in the Third Degree. Shur was processed for 11 counts of Criminal Mischief; however, he refused to be processed for the damage to the cabinet door and urinating on the booking room floor. Shur was taken to the Ontario County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
Shur is also a suspect in a burglary, criminal contempt, and multiple graffiti cases in the downtown area where charges are pending.
