Police arrested a Canandaigua man after he allegedly lied about being followed by a person who was armed with a gun in the area of County Road 46 and Smith Road in Hopewell.
After a full investigation, it was determined that the incident in which Robert Merkley had reported to law enforcement never occurred.
The 39-year-old was taken to the Ontario County Jail and was released on an appearance ticket
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
