BREAKING: Penn Yan Man Found Murdered in Monroe County Hotel

SHARE NOW

A Penn Yan man is dead following a stabbing at a hotel, and a suspect is now facing a murder charge.

Deputies say 40-year-old Daniel Fiero of Penn Yan was found dead from stab wounds inside a room at the Extended Stay America Hotel on Commons Way in Henrietta. Authorities have charged 36-year-old Richard Leo, of Rochester, with second-degree murder in connection with Fiero’s death.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the hotel just before 3 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a dispute inside one of the rooms. When deputies arrived, they say they found Leo inside with blood on him and discovered Fiero’s body.

After being taken into custody, Leo was interviewed at the sheriff’s office B-Zone Substation. Investigators later charged him with murder.

Detectives continued processing the scene at the hotel as they worked to determine what led up to the 911 call.

Leo was arraigned in Monroe County CAP Court. Deputies say the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
