The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of 30-year-old Joseph Sykes of Bloomfield following a one-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in the Town of Victor.
Deputies responded around 1:33 a.m. to the intersection of Willis Hill Road and Dryer Road for a report of a car that struck a ditch. Investigators say Sykes was driving a 2017 Volkswagen GTI that left its lane, went through the intersection without stopping, and hit an embankment and street sign before coming to a stop partially in the roadway.
Sykes told deputies he swerved to avoid a deer. Following an investigation, he was arrested at the scene for Driving While Intoxicated.
Sykes was taken to the Ontario County Jail to await centralized arraignment and will appear in Victor Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
